Forging Cultural Heritage in Palestine During Jewish Holidays to Expand Settlement

By: Madeeha Araj,

The National Bureau for Defending Land and Resisting Settlements said in his latest weekly report , that the blind American bias to the expansionist aggressive Israeli settlement policy affects every aspects of the Palestinian life, especially, after the American Administration recognized Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan, though forging history and cultural heritage of the region, and violating the international law and international legitimacy. It was noticed that the Jewish holidays have become an additional occasion to attack the Palestinians, and their properties thus increase their suffering as they are celebrating those holidays, using them to control more Palestinian land and judaize the archaeological and religious sites located in the Palestinian cities, towns and villages.

Many of the towns and villages have been invaded by the settlers under the pretext of visiting religious sites according to their alleged versions, accompanied by members of the newly elected Knesset members in the process of storming the tomb of the Yosif Tomb in Nablus with the participation of some 1400 settlers, who performed Talmudic prayers and called for the imposition of Israeli sovereignty over Yosif Tomb and the West Bank. They pledged to continue building and expanding the settlements. Moreover, Israeli occupation forces also used religious occasions to close roads to protect dozens of settlers in Hebron, and to imposing sovereignty over the West Bank.

On the other hand, the Right-wing Union called on the Likud party headed by Netanyahu not to evacuate any settlers nor to recognize Palestinian state. Sources at the union focused on the confirmation of the right-wing parties to amend the immunity law, so that no Knesset member be prosecuted. Thus, returning to pre-2005 version, which stated that lifting immunity of a member of the Knesset shall be applied only if the majority of the Knesset approved that.

Expressing great appreciation for the unlimited US support for the policy of occupation and settlement, Israeli PM Netanyahu announced that he intends to name of US President Donald Trump on a new settlement in the occupied Syrian Golan Heights.

As part of the policy of collective punishment carried out by the occupation authorities, demolition of Palestinian homes in the West Bank in general and in Jerusalem in particular continues against the international law, of which was the demolition of the house of the martyr, Omar Abu Laila in the village of Al-Zawia, Salfit governorate. Thus, the EU missions issued a joint statement in Jerusalem and Ramallah on the demolition of Palestinian property in the neighborhoods of East Jerusalem, rejecting such policies, confirming that they are contrary to international law. The EU’s mission to Jerusalem and Ramallah follows-up with deep concern the Israeli authorities’ demolition of Palestinian property in the Yasol Valley area of the Silwan neighborhood on this April 17th. They expected that the Israeli authorities to reconsider the implementation of demolition orders.

The pretexts of the occupation authorities vary in justification of the confiscation of Palestinian land. The Israeli occupation army issued a military order number 19/1 on the right of dispossession and disposal of 401 dunums in order to open a new bypass road. Accordingly, the decision to seize hundreds of dunums of agricultural land comes in the following locations:

Beit Umar: The sites of Fareedis, Beit Za’tah, Jabal Abu Soda, Jabal Al-Qarn, Wadi Al-Sheikh” and Wadi Al-Arub”.

Halhul: Khirbat Beit Kharf, Ras-Qadi, Khirbet-Darji, Dahrl-Bou. Knowing that the Israeli army has already made a plan to open a bypass road no. 60 near Beit Ummar, and was published in Al-Quds Newspaper on Aug. 10th 2006. The total length of the road is 7,685 kilometers as follows:

–  3,270 km in the lands of Beit Ummar in the Khirbat Abrikot, Khirbet al-Tala ‘, Abu Suda, Afrididis, Wadi al-Sheikh, and Beit Za’tah.

–  1,790 km in the lands of Al-Urub, including Al-Urub Technical College, 2.625 km in the territory of Halhul, 625 km to Karmi Tzur settlement, at the following locations: Ras Al-Qadi, Beit Khairan, Wadi Al-Shannar.

A report issued by the United Nations for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs “OCHA” on the situation in Hebron that documented the violations of the occupation army and settlers in the occupied area of the heart of the city of Hebron (H1), which includes about 133,000 Palestinian citizens in violation of international law, Which stated that the occupying state may not transfer its nationals and settlers to the occupied territory. The UN said that the area has witnessed many attacks by settlers on Palestinians living in enclaves and closed areas with barbed wire, walls and barriers. The report said that the occupation authorities since April 2015 intensified its procedures in (H1), especially the movement of citizens, there are about 1022 military obstacles in the area. These restrictions imposed by the occupation oblige them to live in an isolated area and prevent them from moving freely, preventing them from visiting their relatives and restrict access to public services. Worthless to say that the city is always attacked by settlers since the occupation of the West Bank in 1967
