Jerusalemites defy Israeli plans to change the status quo in Al-Aqsa

By: Madeeha Al-A’raj

The National Bureau for defending land and resisting settlements ( nbprs ) stated in its latest weekly report , that in a massive public outburst the Jerusalemites have thwarted the right-wing Jewish organizations in collusion with the occupation government to change the status quo on the Haram esh-Sharif, where the head of the ‘Returning to the Mountain Movement’, Raphael Morris, confirmed that the announcement on social networks about this movement’s call to “slaughter offerings” in the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque is true.  Israeli accounts have published posters from the ‘Temple’ groups in which they promote the payment of sums of money to anyone who can slaughter the sacrifice, while a group of settlers, including rabbis, stormed Al-Aqsa a few days ago.

At the end of the week, the yards of the Al-Aqsa Mosque turned into a battlefield by desecrating it, assaulting the fasting worshipers with sound bombs, batons, rubber bullets, live bullets and pepper gas, and arresting hundreds of them with the aim of evacuating the worshipers from Al-Aqsa. After evacuating Al-Aqsa and besieging some in the Dome of the Rock, the Special Forces and the police stormed the place and brutally assaulted those present, forcing them to sit on the ground, handcuffing them, and then taking them to the detention centers.

Moreover, the Israeli District Planning and Building Committee approved 3 large settlement projects south of the occupied Jerusalem, including the construction of 600 settlement units on the lands of Walaja and Beit Safafa, the expansion of the industrial zone on the outskirts of Bethlehem, and the establishment of hotels. The station includes 500 housing units in 8 buildings from 10 to 5 floors, commercial and employment areas and hotels. The municipality also confirmed that the “old train” station complex in the Al-Thawri Neighborhood, south of the Old City, will be converted into a commercial center and the construction of 600 settlement units, as well as a cultural and entertainment center in Jerusalem.

It is said that that the second plan ‘Cluster C’ was approved on an area of about 13.1 dunums, as the plan proposes the construction of 3 buildings of 10 to 5 floors, with 270 housing units, in addition, the plan includes 70 hotel rooms and 3,000 m2 for work, and trade on commercial fronts along the streets, and an open public area of 2.3 acres.

For her part, the Deputy Judicial Adviser to the Israeli Government for Civil Affairs, Kermit Ulis, approved the linking of the informal settlement outposts in the occupied West Bank to electricity, knowing that these outposts. The occupation is ‘state lands’ not those that were established on privately owned Palestinian lands. There are more than 50 informal settlement outposts in the West Bank, controlling large areas of land.

The Israeli Minister of Defense, Benny Gantz, must give the final approval to connect the outposts to electricity. In light of the political crisis that the Israeli government is facing after losing a supportive majority in the Knesset, MK Nir Auerbach of Prime Minister Bennett’s Yamina party stipulated that the outposts be connected to electricity, intensify construction in the settlements, and continue to support students of Haredi yeshivas with allocations for kindergartens in order not to be split from the coalition.

As for the settlers, they are also continuing to work on establishing a settlement outpost in the Muwfeh Plain in the northern Jordan Valley, north of Khirbet Al Hadidiya, where bulldozer has been working in the place since the beginning of this month. They are working to establish facilities and seats and define the area they intend to seize and turn it into a settlement outpost.

The new settlement outpost in the Jordan Valley is added to 6 outposts established by settlers in that area during the past years, where they put road signs, dug some small holes, and brought seating, which raises the suspicion that these works are the nucleus of a new outpost, and the settler groups are working to establish an outpost east of the city of Ramallah, specifically near the settlement of ‘Ma’ale Michmas’, which includes 5 families in the first phase, called ‘Novi Yisrael’, while settlers reconstructed homes in 2 outposts near Ramallah after demolishing 20 buildings inside them.
